CRSC practices
Quality Deer Management (QDM) on all of their leased properties.
Many members are active members of QDMA. Members are encouraged to
let younger bucks mature by harvesting bucks over 8 points or at
least 3-1/2 years old. In addition, the herd is balanced by reducing
doe numbers in order to achieve a higher buck to doe ratio.
Wildlife Management means different things to different people but
ultimately it comes down to providing better habitat and selective
harvesting. CRSC not only manages their properties for deer and
turkeys but also for grouse, waterfowl, doves and other upland game.
Controlling predators like coyotes and foxes are also a part of the
CRSC management plan. Other varmints such as ground hogs
(woodchucks) can also present problems to farm equipment and out
buildings. Some of our members participate in "varmint round-ups"
each year on CRSC property and neighboring farm lands to help keep
these animal population in check.
Fishing Ponds are also managed to maintain a healthy population of
fish for our members who enjoy fishing. Stocking, fertilizing and
monitoring are a few common practices CRSC uses in their pond
management program.
CRSC has members who are also active participants in the National
Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). They help conduct reintroductions,
relocations and releases of mature adult wild turkeys into various
parts of Ohio and neighboring states. We also have members who
belong to Whitetails Unlimited and support those fundraising
activities. We encourage members to join a local NWTF or WTU chapter
or participate in local chapter activities to show their support.
